The Science of Halloween

Location:  Traffic Jam & Snug in Detroit

Second only to Christmas, Halloween is the biggest shopping holiday for retailers, generating more than $6 billion in sales annually.  From professional props in haunted attractions to amateur home decorating, the science of Halloween will be revealed in this entertaining presentation.  Members of the Motor City Haunt Club will explain the technical side of the holiday including animatronic, pnematic, electrical, lighting, and sound systems...and of course, chemistry!!

Unmask the materials that disgust you.  Experience a bone-chilling presentation that combines the wonder of science with the thrills and chills of Halloween!

The evening of libations, edible delights and science inquiry begins at 7:00pm at Traffic Jam & Snug, 511 West Canfield Street on the corner of Second Avenue, Detroit, just south of Wayne State University.  There is no admission charge, and free parking is available.

Flint-area Pro-haunt crawl

This is the official notice that our Flint pro haunt crawl is taking place on Saturday, September 26th. The plan is to visit the three haunts that are offering our club members discounted admission since they are advertising on our site. After the third haunt, we’ll let the group do their own thing since we’ll be ending up on Dort Hwy, the unofficial ‘haunt strip’ of Flint. There is talk that the owner of the Crypt may let us tour his haunt as well, even though it isn’t open on the 26th, but Karen is checking into that. If the haunted trail project across from St Lucifer’s is open, we can hit that one as well. Let’s plan on meeting at the Deadland at 7pm. Below is the itinerary, along with each haunt’s address so you can plug it into Mapquest:

The dollar amounts listed are the club price for these haunts. In case you were wondering, yes Cell Block 13 is located at Playland Park, the same address as St Lucifer's. REMINDER: PLEASE remember to bring your valid 2009 MCHC membership card in order to enter at the listed discounted admission price. Also, please remember most haunts are cash only. No personal checks or credit cards accepted. Even though Exit 13’s website lists them as accepting MC & Visa, you never know if their machine brakes down. You don’t want to be the poor soul holding up the line, so please have enough cash in your party to cover all three haunts. Just remember the Golden Rule. We hope to leave these haunts with a good impression so that when it comes time to secure discounts next year they will be more than happy to accommodate us.

Toledo Pro Haunt Crawl

This is the official announcement that the Toledo pro haunt crawl will take place on Sunday, October 4th. For those that are interested, let's plan to meet at TERRORTOWN right when it opens at 7:30pm. This has four haunts for us to visit, so plan on being here at least an hour, if not longer depending on lines. Then it's off to CHAINSAW CREEK, which also has four haunts. Both locations are letting us tour all four attractions for $15 (reg $20) as long as we show our membership cards, so PLEASE remember to bring them to this event. Pontiac Pro Haunt Crawl

Hey there Haunt lovers: This is the official announcement that we are planning a visit to the Pontiac pro haunts for Thursday, October 8th. Here's the scoop: Ed Terebus, owner of EREBUS, has informed me that if we get a decent sized group together, he will let us tour Erebus for $10 per person. That's a pretty sizable discount from the regular $22 price. So if interested, let's meet at Erebus at 7pm on Oct 8th. After Erebus, we'll move on to the Realm of Darkness, which will also be open on the 8th. And we just confirmed that ROD will also be allowing us to tour the haunt for $10, which is half off their normal $20 price. Therefore, for $20/person on this night only we will get to tour two of the area's most well-known (and well done) haunted houses!! So...if you are interested in this trip, please email me offlist by Monday, October 5th with the number in your party, so I can let Ed know how many of us will be invading his haunt. As always, when coming to this or any other pro haunt tour, PLEASE remember to bring your MCHC membership cards. Haunt Crawl thru HELL!!

Ok folks, sorry for the late notice, but this basically just materialized in the last couple hours.  We will be getting a discount at both Terrorfied Forest in Pickney as well as a newer attraction nearby called the Boneyard, located in Stockbridge, only about 15 miles west of Terrorfied.  The catch?  Boneyard's discount for now is only available for Saturday, September 18th (unless I can convince him to extend it).  But it's a pretty sweet discount....$7 off the regular $20 price for all three attractions (haunted forest, house, and corn maze).  Terrorfied is already offering us their combo for $15 (regular $25) for that night, so for $28/person you can tour all 5 attractions at both properties!

So here's the scoop....both haunts open at dusk (basically around 7:30 I think) so, for those interested, let's plan to meet at Terrorfied around 8.  Should probably take us about an hour and a half to do both attractions there.  Then we can head west to the Boneyard.  Both attractions are open until midnight.  If you are interested in this crawl, email me offlist at This email address is being protected from spambots. I know Sept 18th is also the day of the next meeting and fog juice make n take, but I think we should have everything done by 3 or so, giving those of us going on the crawl ample time to get ready.

And just a reminder....both locations are basically outdoor attractions, so be sure you and everyone in your party dress accordingly!  Most of these attractions operate even if it's rainy or windy, so hold on to your hats!  Don't forget to bring your membership cards as well....they will be asking to see them.

FLINT PRO HAUNT CRAWL

This is the official announcement that we are planning the 2010 Flint Pro Haunt Crawl for Saturday, October 2nd.  We will begin the crawl at 7pm at the Crypt Haunted House in Flint, then work our way down the Dort Highway haunts by hitting Saint Lucifer's and the Thirteenth Realm.  The owner of St Lucifer's said that he should have another haunt right next door on his property called 13 Feet Under, and has promised us a discount for this attraction as well.  The regular price for all these haunts is $13, and we are getting in for $10/person, except for the 13th Realm.  This haunt is a bit more expensive this year, in part because it is two attractions, one of which is a haunted trail.  The regular combo price for this haunt is $23, and we'll be getting in for $18.  We will then move on to Exit 13 in Mount Morris.

PONTIAC PRO HAUNT CRAWL

As revealed during yesterday's meeting, the date for the PONTIAC PRO HAUNT CRAWL has been set.  It will be Sunday, October 10th.  Yep, that's right:  10/10/10!!!  Both owner's have most generously agreed to grant our members 50% off regular admission prices for both attractions on this night only.  So that means our price for Erebus will be $11 (regular $22) and for Realm it will be $10 (reg $20).  Since Erebus opens earlier that night, the plan will be to meet at Erebus at 6pm, have everyone go through that one first, and then move on to Realm.  As a reminder, Realm of Darkness has a brand new location:  37 Turk St, which is even closer to Erebus!

HELL HAUNT CRAWL

For the second year in a row, the MCHC goes to HELL....Michigan.  For our first haunt crawl of the season, we will visit the TERRORFIED FOREST in Pickney, then it's on to the BONEYARD in Stockbridge.  The discount for TERRORFIED will be $10 off the $25 combo ticket TONIGHT ONLY!  The rest of the season the discount will only be $5 off the combo price.  As for the Boneyard, the $5 discount off the $20 regular price for all three attractions is also good for tonight ONLY (9/17/11), so if you want to check out a great show come join us for both attractions!  It'll be one HELL of a good time!

Deadland Opening Night

Opening night for the Deadland Haunted House in Warren, MI.  The owners were gracious enough back in June to give us a free sneak preview of the haunt (as well as some cool T-shirts), so let's show them our support by checking out the haunt on opening night.  For this night (and the following two nights) tickets will only be $10, and you can go through the haunt as many times as you like on the night you purchase a ticket.  The owners said they already made major changes since our lights-on tour, so let's check it out!  The plan is for everyone to meet around 7pm when they open, but if you can't come until a bit later that's fine, they'll be open until 1am.
Deadland is located at 20900 Dequindre in Warren, just north of 8 Mile, in the former building of Deadly Intentions (County Line Trade Center).  Check out the website at www.thedeadland.com. 
Bonus -  if the Scream Machine in Taylor opens the same night, we might head down there as well for those interested, as those tickets should also be $10.  Stay tombed!!!

JACKSON HAUNT CRAWL

For the first time, our club is headed west for a Jackson-area haunt crawl.  Our first stop will be to the JACKSON UNDERWORLD, from the creators of the Homer Mill.  For non members there is a $5 coupon on the site (http://www.jxunderworld.com/coupons.html), but on this night only MCHC members get in for $10 off!  Then, it's off to the very secluded and spooky DARKSYDE ACRES in Jonesville.  Former MCHC member Rob Johnson is giving us $10 off the $20 regular price for the three attractions.  Plus don't forget there's also Zombie Paintball!  Since this will be one of the longer haunt crawls in terms of distance, let's all try to carpool as much as possible so we can get a big group going (and save on some gas money...lol!)
